Having a husband who is quite a hard sleeper, it was important for us to buy an alarm clock that would allow him to wake up on time, yet not have to deal with the deafening noises that a regular alarm clock is doing, and wake me up in the process as well. He has to wake up at least 2 hours before me, and I do like my beauty sleep, so we really had to do something about it. So we have really testes several alarm clocks and finally we found the one: the Sonic Boom alarm clock. Believe it or not, we actually bought 4 of the most popular models that had high ratings in Amazon. However we wanted to test them ourselves (rather my husband really), and make up our own mind about which one truly works as advertised.

After several weeks of trial (and error - some of them were close to make me have a heart attack due to fright), we found it: the Sonic Alert SB300 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock.

To be honest, when it comes to looks, I would have prefered another model however this really worked as advertised and is currently still helping my husband wake up in the morning without missing his work appointments.

This model was actually the 4th one we tried and it really works! There are two ways that you can easily set your alarm: either to work as a regular loud alarm or use its vibrating option to avoid waking me up. My husband used both way. During one weekend I had to go away to my family for small family emergency, so my hubby slept alone through 3 nights. This is when he used the sound alarm feature and later on he told me that it was really loud and he had no problems waking up whatsoever. This model has an extra large (1.8) easy to read display that makes it very easy to see the time whenever you wake up in the middle of the night.

However personally I can also attest that when I was around and he used the vibrating option (a vibrating mechanism that is slipped under his pillow), he is waking up quietly, and disappears from the house without me even turning in my sleep. He hasn't been late for work ever since and we do have this alarm clock for a few months already. In the meantime we gave away the other 3 models to friends and relatives.

Any Complaints?

First of all, based on our personal experience, this alarm does exactly what is intended to do: wake you up if you are a hard sleeper or hearing impared and leave the others sleep in peace in the process.

When checking out online reviews, we found the odd person who had serious issues waking up even with this alarm clock, but then for them really nothing worked. Also there was a person saying that it cannot be used in Europe unless the power grid frequency is 60 Hz. Basically what happens in Europe and other countries is that the clock will be eventually late by around 7 minutes. As this clock, however is only sold within the US, this is where it is supposed to truly work, which it does. For European frequencies there are many other models that are catering for their own freqency power grid.
